Greater Philadelphia Chapter 6 Meeting

Grease Analysis of Critical Machinery

In facility management, much of the mechanical equipment that we rely upon is grease lubricated, including exhaust fans, AHUs, pumps and motors. Selecting the wrong grease, mixing greases, and contaminants can all significantly diminish the life of equipment, raising operating costs and resulting in unexpected failures. This presenter will share his experience at the National Institutes of Health, where he supported over 600 facility maintenance personnel by developing and using an innovative grease sampling device called the Grease Thief, and using it to reduce maintenance failures and manpower needed to support grease lubricated equipment.

Rich Wurzbach is the President of MRG Labs in York, Pennsylvania. He previously developed a lubricant analysis laboratory for Exelon at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station.  He is a Certified Lubrication Specialist, a Level III in Infrared Thermography, and conducts training classes across the US.  He is a graduate of Millersville University, and has been a Keynote Speaker at Machinery Reliability Conferences in the US and Europe.  He writes a regular column on Greases in Machinery Lubrication magazine.
