Ronald C. Anderson

Contributions Ron Has Made to AFE:

After obtaining his CPMM and CPS certifications, Ron required his building managers to obtain their CPMM certifications, too. He also required his night foreman and building engineer to obtain the CPS. As the Vice Chairman of the Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) Planning and Construction Professional Development Committee and a member of the West 40 Regional Facilities Managers Group, Ron promotes  AFE's CPMM, CPS and CPE certifications on a quarterly basis to ensure managers and building engineers are being properly trained and certified on a regular basis.”

 

Contributions Ron Has Made to the Industry:

As the Vice Chairman of the Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) Planning and Construction Professional Development Committee, Ron worked with a team of building managers, business managers,  architects, engineers and contractors in efforts to create presentations for the professional development of everyone who attends business, operations, construction workshops and conferences. On an annual basis, Ron renders presentations at the Midwest Facilities Masters Conference hosted by the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO), as well as the Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) conference, the Illinois Facilities Masters Conference and School Dude University hosted in Raleigh North Carolina.  Ron also serves as a mentor for managers in operations, construction management and / or buildings and grounds throughout the state of Illinois.

 

Moreover, in the last few years, Ron submitted energy efficiency grants to the State of Illinois resulting in his school district being awarded $2.5 million in grant funding. These funds were used to replace several black tar roofs in the school district with white energy efficient roofs as well as providing for lighting upgrades. For his efforts, the Board of Education honored Ron with an outstanding leadership award.

 

As Proviso Township High School District 209 Construction Project Manager, Ron managed over $40 million in construction projects.  In implementing the District Master Facility Plan, Ron manages $77 Million in construction projects throughout the District.  Ron received an outstanding leadership award for his role in implementing the Facilities Master Plans first phase of planning, budgeting and community outreach from the Board of Education.

 

Ron’s Other Volunteer Work:

As an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Ron participates each year in the fraternity’s national service programs which are community outreach mentoring initiatives that have been adopted by the organization’s governing body and mandated for implementation by all its chapters.  The service initiatives in which Ron plays an active role include but are not limited to:

 

March for Dimes March for Babies

Formerly known as Walk America, March for Dimes March for Babies, is a charitable walking event sponsored by the March of Dimes. It began in 1970 as the first charitable walking event in the United States. The proceeds help fund research to prevent premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. Ron helps solicit donations to help fund this organization.

 

Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College

The “Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College” program, established in 1922, concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. Ron volunteers his time to help mentor and speak to middle school and high school students on the importance of continuing their education.

 

A Voteless People is a Hopeless People

“A Voteless People is a Hopeless People” (aka VPHP) was initiated as a National Program of Alphas during the 1930’s when many African-Americans had the right to vote but were prevented from voting because of poll taxes, threats of reprisal, and lack of education about the voting process. Voter education and registration have remained a dominant focus of this outreach activity for over 65 years. In the 1990’s, the focus shifted to include political awareness and empowerment, delivered most frequently through town meetings and candidate forums. Ron helps to register people to vote plus stresses the importance of participation in the political process.

 

Brother's Keeper

Formally called the A. Charles Haston Brother’s Keeper program, this service program developed with the mission of advocating and improving the quality of life for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s senior brothers, their spouses and widows; brothers who are retired and have disabilities or ailments; and vulnerable community members. Ron helps with yard work and other daily assistance of the elderly brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

 

Project Alpha

This collaborative project is designed to provide education, motivation and skill-building on issues of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases for young males ages 12-15 years. Project Alpha consists of a series of workshops and informational sessions conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers. Ron helps present during the lectures and perform any other duties needed to help make the program a success.

Ed spent four years at sea in the Merchant Marine as an engineer, two and one-half years at Maine Yankee Atomic Power Plant as an operator, two years as a facility engineer for a wood products company, ten years as a plant engineer for the paper industry, four years as a project manager for an engineering firm doing business in the pulp and paper industry, and seventeen years as a facility manager in the defense industry.

Rene has an extensive computer background and has demonstrated sound business decision making capabilities. He is willing to commit to fulfilling the necessary requirements to complete the task at hand. Skills include the ability to translate and prepare the training materials and instruct in Spanish, and has the knowledge needed to work with local Colleges to promote the education goal AFE needs to be in the forefront of the industry. Currently, Kurt holds the position of Treasurer for Chapter 23 Piedmont Triad as well as a member of the AFE (National) Membership Committee.  Kurt has worked with two other members on the CPMM Certification Class in September, handled all set up, ordered shirts, and all materials for the class.  Specifically, Kurt makes sure all dues are paid for each event and makes the deposits.  Kurt recently opened a savings account for AFE 23.  He handles all monetary transactions for the AFE 23.

Currently work at the Commonwealth of Virginia supporting the facility group through there CMMS System. I have been in the facility field for over forty years.

He is the incumbent VP for Region 7 (International), supports AFE Professional Development Committee and is cited as a contributor for the recent CPMM updates. He is also active with other facility-related organizations activities.

 

Contributions Stephen Has Made to the Industry:

After managing US-based facility portfolios for more than ten years, Brown assumed a leadership position with a diverse international portfolio. For the next 15 years, he held senior facility management posts in the Caribbean, UK/Europe, and the Middle East. After years managing the built environment for both private and public-sector organizations, Brown founded FM-adviso to provide specialist consulting on operational / staffing efficiencies, environmental matters, risk and business continuity management, outsourcing, and policies / procedures for facility management operations and to provide FM credentials and knowledge training. Facility condition assessments and performance audits are a specialty.

Brown earned an MBA after undergraduate work that combined studies in Architectural Technology and Business Management. He is in steady demand as a qualified facilitator for AFE, IFMA, ProFM, DRI and NREP credentials training programs and as a consultant for diverse facility operations. He regularly authors White Papers, webinars, articles, and blogs. He has been published in several FM industry magazines and has made conference presentations. Known as a dynamic speaker, he engages with the audience to immerse themselves in the content and to enjoy an interactive learning process.
